I thought that a recipe exchange thread would be something fun and a nice diversion for us. Sharing recipes is a nice thing to do and with as many different cultures that we have, we could all end up with some really nice and interesting dishes to try out and enjoy.
Who will be the first to post a favorite recipe here?
Have fun!

This is a great idea, but I'm going to have to find a reliable measurement converter. I know Americans use cups, which are different to the Australian cups, and continental Euros use grams and Ks while in the UK we still use pounds and ounces. Gah. Can I put in a request? Anyone got a recipe for proper authentic american brownies? Thanks.

I know you are not aware Patty, but I started Yummy thread which is photos of food and recipes. So we have a small conflict here.

Different areas; the south, midwest, east have different takes on the same food but brownies are one of those things that can be done a million different ways. I think you mean traditional brownie with chocolate icing with or w/o pecans

I know you are not aware Patty, but I started Yummy thread which is photos of food and recipes. So we have a small conflict here. I wasn't aware of your thread, Jhawk, but I don't see why we can't have both here. This one won't have pictures, just recipes. But if you want me to delete the thread, I'll be happy to. I honestly did not know that you had one up already. I don't want to cause anyone any problems or hurt feelings. But I don't see why we can't have both threads up, as I think there are enough differences that they won't collide with each other. Just let me know what you want me to do. Patty

Maryquitecontrary, here is a copy of the brownie recipe that I use, and it is by far the best one I have found yet. It's copied from one of the recipes on the Food Network, but I have used this recipe for years and alway with great success. I am often asked to bring these brownies to various functions, they are very well recieved and go very quickly. And this recipe doubles nicely if you need a larger batch. Let me know if you try this and how it was for you.
BEST CHOCOLATE BROWNIE RECIPE Recipe makes 16 brownies INGREDIENTS: 1/2 cup butter 1 cup white sugar 2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon baking powder FROSTING INGREDIENTS 3 tablespoons butter, softened 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder 1 tablespoon honey 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup confectioners' sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour an 8 inch square pan. In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat in 1/3 cup cocoa, 1/2 cup flour, salt, and baking powder. Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Do not overcook.
To Make Frosting: Combine 3 tablespoons butter, 3 tablespoons cocoa, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 cup confectioners' sugar. Frost brownies while they are still warm.

Buckeye,I didn't realise there were more than a few types of brownies! The one I had once had nuts in and was lovely and tacky, not dry, it suck to the roof of my mouth. Wonderful. Thanks for the recipe PP, I'll need to sort out the cup measurement situation before I give it a go... Re. this thread and the Yummy thread, I didn't realise that thread had recipes, last I looked it was only pictures... no matter, the more the merrier!
