Finally got a chance to watch the commercial....it's the eyebrows that totally throw me off. They just come across as....weird.

The way they cut and styled his hair and sideburns makes his face look unbalanced. It's like a huge mop on top of his head that hangs down and cuts his face right at the nose...sideburns cut at around the same area and the combo it makes his nose look enormous. Eyebrows...yep...not good. Oh, well.
BTW - Have they mentioned this ad at all on "The Insider"? That's Brooke Anderson...the reporter at the end...isn't it?

Why would Gerry do this advert? Does he need the money? I doubt it? why do it then? They touched his beautiful manly face & he does not look like the Gerry we love. and its for some super cheap dollar razor??

Why would Gerry do this advert? Does he need the money? I doubt it? why do it then? They touched his beautiful manly face & he does not look like the Gerry we love. and its for some super cheap dollar razor?? Most big name actors do foreign commercials for a quick payday. While it is becoming more acceptable these days for them to be seen in commercials in general, they tend to try and do it out of sight of North American & British audiences…so they are not associated with the stigma of “selling out”. Speculating based on my knowledge of the industry and what I have read/heard about Gerry's recent activities... It would not be uncommon for an actor who is buying a new home to take a job like this to offset the cost. He wants a house in Shreveport...he takes a quick job, so it has little or no impact on him financially. While he gets paid excellent money for you and me…he’s got a lot of expenses….3 – 4 homes (NY, CA, LA…does he still have the London flat?) mortgages, maintenance, taxes, utilities, house sitters, etc…he needs to pay his assistant (although the studio may be covering her for the duration of filming) he’s got to give his, manager, agent & lawyer a cut of earnings. Rupert needs to get paid...believe me the list goes on for someone like him. Also, he’s not making BIG budget films (by Hwd standards). The films he’s been doing all have moderate budgets, so that is reflected in his paycheck. When I look at thebudgets of his recent films and the other “names” in the cast…doesn’t look to me like he can be getting his publicized “asking price” and the back end (points or % a “name” can get from the box-office take) can’t be that great on these films, because lately his films haven’t grossed that much. It helps when he’s producing, because then he gets another salary and movie rentals are a really nice pad…but this guy has got to keep working to keep the money train rolling. Bottom line…he’s got to make sure that he’s got money coming in to maintain his lifestyle and the money he’s got going out. Also, as an actor in his 40’s…he’s got to be constantly making things happen for himself…pursuing jobs and other income streams, because it is a fickle town and the appetite of audiences change.

Happy to help shed some light.
One thing I want to emphasize and then I’ll shut up…
I am in no way suggesting that he may be struggling for money. I have no personal knowledge of his finances. I’m sure that he pulls in way more than he needs to maintain his current lifestyle. Right now a lot of his day-to-day expenses including, food, pvt trainers, local housing costs (while he’s shooting in Shreveport) transportation, staff salaries may be covered by production right now…depending on his deal.
All I meant to point out was that there are a lot of expenses for someone at his level with his lifestyle, so he’s got to think about his financial future. For the first 6 month of this year while he was working to develop new projects...it’s a write off, but that’s not new money coming in…there may be decent money coming in from residuals and interest on money made in the past….but he’s gotta plan for what happens down the road.
A smart actor is a businessman too and recognizes that there is a window where he has his biggest earning potential…he’s got to strike while the iron is hot to maximize and prolong that and to plan for the future when there may be a dry spell….hopefully that won’t happen for a long time…it certainly seems that he’s trying to position himself to get to the next level of critical acclaim that would advance his career to new heights.
Okay…enough said…I’m out….

Popog I'm agree with you he has a lots of things to paid, but there are also many companies out of there ready to ask him to work with them. He can choose the best , like L'Oreal George Clooney has done many commercials like Nepresso and Toyota and they never changed his face, like they have done with Gerry in this commercial.

I think I remember George saying that doing things like making commercials then allows him to take lesser-paying but more satisfying projects - could have been from Inside the Actor's Studio interview. Similar to what Gerry said about the 'pay day' films financing other ventures.

I agree, he looks too "pretty" in this commercial. I prefer the natural, manly Gerry who visits me in my dreams. I'm glad this is a foreign ad.

The only time he really looks like himself is the red carpet bit, which happens to be really funny.

Gerry looks very metrosexual in this ad, and he's anything but, IMO.

Photoshopped, modeled, botoxed or whatever they call it. They took the emotion out of his face in a really bad way. Just notice the lines on his forehead and underneath his eyes. That's why it looks so weird. It looks like they "fixed" him all the way down to almost the lower side of his cheeks. ...and you know....hmm,hmm, his face is so, lovely, it hurts to loOk.... Ouch! SiZzzzzle ((and the color & tone of this pic makes G look ginger. and with some tanning perhaps that might be a good color for him. basically - scots have a lotta red )) you know you're right there tinkerbell. the commercial was definately either vaselined or gauzed or smudged or photo'chopped' to erase the age lines. pfst just goes to show ya how IMMATURE the makers of this product could be? huh, maybe baby? when will they ever learn....we're all (as zorba the greek eloquently yaked....) worms supper. oye?!
