Another funny criticism of People's choice and it actually articulates some of the reasons I am confounded "Cooper uses a version of smarm. Smart isn't sexy. In the last year Gosling has been sexy in four different movies -- "Blue Valentine," "Crazy, Sexy, Love.," "Drive," and "The Ides of March" -- and has been so in four different ways. Cooper hasn't been sexy at all. So People's endorsement of him over Gosling or, say, Idris Elba (the magazine includes them among the sexier options) is a kind of a blow to sexiness. Cooper and Reynolds suggest what People might really is "hot." There's also this: Why does the Sexiest Man Alive cover always fail to make the men look sexy? They always look like puppies. Is that what we want? This one, of Cooper, is particularly distressing. It's fair to see it and wonder why he's dressed like Justin Bieber. " www.boston.com/ae/movies/blog/2011/11/bradley_cooper.htmlIdris Elba indeed and the covers used to be sexy but Depp's cover was awful and he can be a good looking man when he isn't doing the vagabond thing. I do feel a bit bad for Brad Cooper because this can't be good for his ego I don't feel bad for Cooper because this happens every year. They can only chose one man and fans of all the others will be upset. I don't think Cooper is a bad choice actually. He is in my top 5 sexy men so I'm not horribly disappointed though I will be if Gerry doesn't make the magazine (like last year...grrr). It sounds like he will though. What upsets me is what was written in that boston.com article... This part: I mean to single Gerry out like that, what a hater.

LMAO, Dawne, I guess he couldn't get a real (second) job so he became a movie critic... Wonder how true that is for any of them...

Hmmm not sure I like the sound of this Talking about this magazine issue and sections of it "One proclaims that 'Funny is the new Sexy' and another praises heartthrobs who lost their looks (or way) to get them back again, including Jude Law, 38 , Gerard Butler, 42 , and Colin Farrell, 35." Hmmmm Love this photo though, oldie but goodie "Two for the price of one: Gerard Butler and Hugh Jackman are also recognised" www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2062350/Bradley-Cooper-named-Peoples-Sexiest-Man-Alive-2011.html?ito=feeds-newsxmlI'd not have been able to breath at that function......LOL. Gerry looked extra smoking hot that night. Those jeans. "Lost their looks" = when "King Leonidas" gained the weight almost 2 years ago is still a topic of conversation, "(or way)," = from critically-acclaimed "300" to questionable rom coms, "To get them back again" = He lost the weight almost immediately, and not only kept it off for a while now, but has dropped even more (to some concern), and he's in more involved and heavier fare, like MGP (his performance does have better reviews than the movie itself), Coriolanus, PTF (if the Dear Frankie similarities are accurate), and OMAM. It's a back-handed compliment, but still a compliment...

I disagree about this Sexiest Man Alive. I would imagine it's not the greatest award if you are a serious actor. I don't really know how to explain it but he is so much more than this demeaning award. Just my opinion but I bet Gerry doesn't even care about this award. Also, do many non-Americans ever get this award? HE himself said that he'd like more mention of his commitment/dedication to an ENTIRE role, not just his PHYSIQUE for it, so being "Sexiest" in this specific stage of his career, might not be "demeaning," but somewhat...distracting, since most people equate sexy with looks, first and foremost (Face it, many more will see and judge the BCoop on the mag cover, than actually buy/read the article about BCoop). This is what goes with G seeking out the edge and energy of not being easily defined/marketed. The "honor" would be flattering, but probably holds no real value to him (other than even more funny but self-effacing comments, and potentially horrid pickup lines - "Who here wants to be sexed-up til she's sore by 'People Magazine's 2011 Sexiest Man Alive?'" - As he points to some dark complexioned, dark haired trollop ogling him from across the room - I swoop in low, tackle her from behind, catapult off of her back, bullet towards him, arms stretched wide, and...well...you know the rest...). The SMA title, and its companion piece, "Most Beautiful," has become a very obvious PR tool of late. We all know they don't search the world, country, or even the industry over for "The Most/-Est ANYTHING Alive," or even take a poll outside of the interns' office to draw their conclusions. And bottom line, it doesn't always effectively put asses in the theater seats anyway. Case and point, SMA 2010 Ryan Reynolds' Buried, Green Lantern, and The Change Up subsequently under-performed, critically and/or financially after his cover. The PR outcome is not always positive, either. Rightly so or not, JLo's "2011 Most..." title received snark and suspicion. She and BCoop's recent "leaked" dates just before his cover's release has made BOTH of them look like some sort of a "People's PR Package Deal." And now BCoop is being ripped into as if he made this decision himself (although the tide will probably turn in a few days). Besides, selection is extremely subjective (What is PEOPLE'S definition of "sexiest?"), and SOMEbody out there would be harping even if G DID make the cover because that's just how this stuff goes...but I will say, IMHO, G nor Idris Alba could, should, and would NEVER be behind/below somewhat attractive BCoop on lists of these kinds of matters. At. All. G and Dris? Oh, to be the meat in THAT RockNRolla sandwich...again, you know the rest... G is called out all of the time as "sexy/hot/please-be-my-baby's-daddy" by a WORLDWIDE variety of reporters/interviewers, bloggers/tweeters, co-stars/industry admirers, etc. He gets that attention and validation on a regular basis. Maybe too much (How many times has a comment on his personal life/appearance managed to sneak its way into critics' comments, when they're supposed to also be reviewing his actual performance?). And all of this, regardless if he's "crowned" by a magazine that unashamedly works directly with/caters to publicists. I don't put much stock in if People Mag feels that he or anyone is THE SH!T or not this year or ever. PLENTY of other people think he is, and say so without hesitation. He'll never be on the top of some lists, no matter what, for professional and sometimes personal reason. But BCoop doesn't even make the cut onto some of them that G tops. Apples and oranges. But the IMPORTANT lists he needs to be at or near the top of: CASTING DIRECTORS'. DIRECTORS'. (SCREEN)WRITERS'. PRODUCERS'. POWER PLAYERS'. OTHER RESPECTED ACTORS'. And yes, even CRITICS' to a degree, and of course, MOVIE GOERS'. There are acclaimed actors/producers who are thriving without (and/or in spite of) "Sexiest" being on their resume. I admit, the cover would have been a nice, fluffy gesture in what I'm sure he (and I) hopes to be an otherwise creatively rewarding and professionally stellar career, but it would still be just a blip, and I question it's true impact on careers other than eventually using it as a tossed out quip or an outright dig. Not "THE Sexiest Man Alive" this time around? Whatever. Clooney, Connery (in his 60's!), Depp, and Harrison were further along in age and career when they made it. So, for those who care enough, and with no judgement from me: Eh. There's always next year...or the next...or the next... Now deny him "Academy Award-Nominee/-Winner," as he continues to consciously change the course of his career, and... And Ryan Reynolds is CANADIAN (by birth), not American. He could also count as a "non-American (with Jackman, Gibson, and Connery)," depending on your definition (birth, primary residency, naturalization, etc).

I saw on TV tonight I think it was TMZ the Ryan Gosling fans were protesting on the streets of NYC a la the Occupy people saying he was robbed of Sexiest Man Alive.
Slightly off topic but TMZ guy met up with Anthony Hopkins recently who apparently says he watches TMZ every night and he wants to host the show and he wants to know why he doesn't have a song too.
I guess the Butler theme song is sparking jealousy, LOL, they did make him up a song for that episode but it really sucked, can't match the Butler TMZ song.

Wow, Gosling fans are as obsessed as we are. Having seen him in person, I do not get it, not sexy at all. But very nice, I give him credits for that. I personally find Bradley much sexier than Ryan.

Ya know one chick online was telling me that Gerry would never get it because he doesn't have the box office appeal and it's funny because most everyone I know (men and women alike) know who Gerard Butler is when I say his name but not very many day to day people know who Bradley Cooper is unless you say "that guy from the Hangover". I don't know, I don't get it but I give up wanting Gerry to make the cover. If you ask me it's all set up anyways.

Just got my People's Sexiest and just to confirm; Gerry got From hot, to not so hot, to hot again. I'm actually pretty disappointed, I think he should have gotten his own page.

Thanks for confirming that Gerry is in the issue, but I don't know if it was better that he was just left off the list than be in a category I think is a bit insulting: From hot, to not so hot, to hot again How nice of PEOPLE Magazine to let us know that Gerry was not so hot and now he is hot again! I think it is obvious that PEOPLE Magazine is not a fan of Gerry.

Bradley Cooper only has the really big success in the Hangover franchise but is that really because of him or because of the ensemble cast, Zack Gafalnafski in particular? So that sounds like another one of these weird excuses... just like the one Gerry never will get it because he is a "bad boy". Well so is Cooper... and the baddest of them all - George Clooney - got it twice.

I believe George's latest girlfriend is a gal who was part of WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) she might as well have been working a pole in a tawdry strip joint. I know it's harsh but.... just saying.

I know it's harsh but.... just saying. George clearly chooses girls he won't have to marry. But he is very clear about that and at least that's honest. I like his current flame a little better than Elisabetha... but not much. But at least this new girl is able to take him down...LOL

OK, I am going to vent - I can't believe PEOPLE did this to Gerry they used that photo of him in Barbados in the pink swim shorts showing him in 3 different body shots to illustrate that he had it, lost it and got it back. He is at top the page for Had it Lost It and Got it Back What gets me really mad is that People used head shots for all of the other actors in this category. You can get a look at this page in this video from Access Hollywood about Bradley Cooper winning - at the 1:15 min mark www.accesshollywood.com/bradley-cooper-named-people-magazines-sexist-man-alive_video_1368872Access Hollywood doesn't even mention Gerry. ( I wonder if Billy Bush was being nice not to highlight Gerry I think they are friends.) I'm sorry but I would rather Gerry had not been in the issue then see him in this section. Sure he looks great in the photo from The Mavericks but it just doesn't help. shellie
