Gerard Butler arrives at Cannes to talk about Motor City and his ‘soccer’ movie

At the glamorous Cannes Film Festival, Scottish actor Gerard Butler discussed his plans for the future – including a new “full-out action movie” in which he’s starring alongside Gary Oldman.
There was a great moment of amusement when he referred to football as ‘soccer’ – explaining with a grin that he’s used to talking about the film in the US, leading to using the slightly uncharacteristic term for a Scot!
Gerard was last seen in Machine Gun Preacher, and one of the projects next up is Motor City, which will be directed by Albert Hughes and co-stars Gary Oldman, and starts shooting in September. Gerard Butler arrives at Cannes to talk about Motor City and his ‘soccer’ movie
He explained: "I haven't done a full-out action movie since, I may be forgetting myself, but since Gamer. It was 300 then Gamer, and that was a few years ago.”
Gerard added: "Recently I've just done a couple movies - one is a soccer film.”
Putting his head in his hands, he grinned and continued: "I can't believe I just said 'soccer,' that's like forgetting your mothers name or something saying 'soccer', but it's because I'm so used to speaking about this in America.
“If I say 'football' people are like 'What are you saying? Football? American Football?' So a movie where I was a professional football player, soccer player and then another one where I was a surfer, so they all required additional training."
Of being in Cannes, Gerard said: “I have film meetings or press conferences, but I don't have a movie showing.
“When you don't have a movie showing, it's kind of hard to be going to see other movies. You can't really go down other people's press lines. So you've always got to make sure you are playing it politically correct.
"Also I was doing some work with Artists for Peace and Justice, and Sean Penn did a charity function for Haiti. When you come to Cannes you cram in a few things in a few short days.”
I'm positively weak from watching...and watching...and watching those STV and Hollywood Rep video interviews. Isn't Gerry just spactacular in his sweet, down-to-earth charm and and beauty. What a man! Talk about melting your heart.
Gerard Butler’s Buttons Have Abandoned Ship[/size]
Cannes just doesn’t seem as exciting now that the Butler Carnival has packed up its tent and moved on, does it? As promised, here’s your treat cats and kittens! Another part of that “boat” interview with Gerard Butler has surfaced. The clip below is part of The Hollywood Reporter’s Video Diary Series and is posted on their website. There are screen caps posted below as well.
First of all, I find it utterly charming that he still thinks about Dear Frankie with such fondness. His fans certainly do. If you haven’t seen that little gem of a movie from 2005 (it was actually filmed in 2003-before Phantom of the Opera-, played festivals all over the world for all of 2004 then finally got an extremely limited release in 2005), do it now.
Second, perfect example of how appearances can be deceiving: if you looked at the pics below without having seen the video, would you have any idea what was going on with those chest pics? No, and someone somewhere will probably see them and make up something about his supersized ego or something equally ridiculous. In context, they are funny and even silly. Some of them are just begging for captions. I do find it amusing he would act as if it were a new phenomenon, this lack of buttons in use on his shirt. The fact that he uses as few as he can get away with is actually part of Butler lore; as if he just barely tolerates and can hardly be contained by clothing most days. An odd dichotomy for a man who can wear the hell out of a suit. But I digress…The guy just does not take himself seriously, despite his detractors constant insistence to the contrary. He’s just too damn sexy for his shirt. I don’t think that’s his fault. Do you?
Tip o’ the pin to my friends at GALS for the heads up and the pics!
Actor Gerard Butler, whose name has appeared in the list of “100 Sexiest Stars in Film History” by Empire Magazine in 2009, was living proof that there is life after alcohol.
The Scottish born actor of such films as Shooters (2000), the war drama Harrison´s Flowers (2000) and as Angelina Jolie´s hunky love interest in the sequel of Lara Croft´s Tomb Raider and in the more recent “PS, I love you” with Hilary Swank and 300, turned heads at Cannes as he sipped on soft drinks at the champagne flowing star-studded event. He kept to his own form of a fizzy drink thanks to a retro SodaStream machine at the event.
He arrived at the event looking dapper and very handsome in a grey suit teamed with a white shirt and a light grey tie wearing his well-known Gerard Butler smile. The star who had until recently been in rehab for treatment of addiction to prescription painkillers looked for fun in the forms of Former Victoria Secret´s model Karolina Kurkova, who looked stunning in a backless black dress and Petra Nemcova who showed off her gorgeous figure in a red gown that had a plunging neckline from here to there.
The Hollywood heartthrob was seen cosying up to Nemcova at the IWC Annual Filmmakers Dinner held at the Hotel Du Cap-Eden Roc in Antibes and seen to be having a fun-filled night sans alcohol.
Who needs alcohol when you have some of the world´s most beautiful women clamouring around you? Not Gerard Butler, he left the event with one of the ladies on his arm and with a grin plastered on his face. It looked like it was going to be a good night for Gerard.
