I told you I’d be back! (I’m like MacArthur…or the Terminator). There was yet another party for yet another previously announced, yet not yet produced, film starring Gerard Butler. This one in celebration of the revenge thriller, Motor City. (He was lookin' far too sexy for that crowd and definitely for that shirt.) By the way, can we talk? The Associated Press – AP – has put out a press release that Gerard Butler is at the Cannes Film Festival and “messing about on boats”. This is their headline and every so-called “news” outlet on the planet, from Yahoo to the Washington Post and beyond, has picked it up and is repeating it verbatim. The story is ostensibly about the fact that he was sitting on a yacht in the harbor in order to talk about his film projects, but they’re all putting the focus on the fact that he's “avoiding the famous red-carpeted stairs” and won’t be “seeing any of the movies premiering at Cannes “because he doesn’t want to upstage the other actors.” The article goes on to claim that Butler says: "You can't really go down other people's press lines. You have to make sure you're politically correct. It's a bit of a bummer." Now, I can well imagine Butler said such a thing. I can also well imagine he was kidding. He is certainly capable of seeing a movie without walking the red carpet and if he did choose to walk the red carpet, I don’t really think he believes he would “upstage” the stars of the film. (If he did, that would be the fault of the press covering the event anyway.) I think a better reason is that he's there working and then he's off to London to train for SoccerAid on the 27th. This stuff drives me crazy. I become irrationally incensed when I see one article or even a statement around which an article is built, boomerang around the web like this with absolutely no thought involved as to whether the content is true or relevant. Whatever it is, it becomes true by repetition. I’ve said it before I’ll say it again. We have a free internet and with great freedom also comes great responsibility, not only for the purveyors of news but for the rest of us who are mere consumers of the news. It becomes more and more important that we don’t believe everything we read and are able to glean the bits of truth out of what we do. Rant over…for now. (I’m using the above only as an example. I don’t for a minute believe it’s as important in the grand scheme of things as being able to decide for ourselves what is true and what is innuendo about say, the news that comes out of Washington.) Shooting starts on Motor City in September and will be directed by Albert Hughes. The best news is that it co-stars Gary Oldman. It’s set in Detroit, but there is a rumor it will be filmed in Europe because it’s cheaper. But don’t quote me on that. Enjoy the pics. (The above is from a photocall for the press release. The pics below are from the party. G with a lot of producers. Sorry about the troll) The Art of Elysium event is tonight (another charity G supports) so expect more pics!
yes, fifi!! without a doubt. pfst! online mag's will post anything to attract attention. it is ridiculous how comments/gestures are distorted. that is why unless you hear it directly take it with a grain of salt......

Awww fifi! I love your feistiness! I agree wholeheartedly that what you said. They always take things out of context though & I'm afraid that will not change. The ladies (and male members- mwahahaha) of OW will just have to continue to set the record straight with our rants & super smart detectives. Lol. I'm looking at you & elenoire and the other super sleuths on here. Gerard is as lucky to have us as we are him. His true fans will always look out for him. BTW-Thanks to all for the great Cannes posts this weekend! Looks like Gerry had fun & was successful.
Yes indeed, ladies -- ME TOO!!!! This reminds me of that terrific Dorothy Skakel (sp?) interview several years ago and Gerry was talking about how when he's joking around--"it's all in the inflection" and then goes to print and comments come across in a completely different manner. Can't you just hear how Gerry would be making those statements if, in fact, he did--with that wonderful sense of humor --- as well as talking about Paul Haggis and the whole auction business. It's why I love the interviews: so much of the real man is missed otherwise.
