Good post SD. I don't think Gerry EVER gets bored. Sad & conflicted maybe, but bored no. LOL He loves the ladies doesn't he? Oh, those lovely ladies- I'm so envious! I too hope he behaves himself so people will focus on his wonderful movies and not his antics. He needs some good press for a change. Good luck Gerry! Love you!

I think you got it, Scottishdreamer while Coriolanus has a number of distribution deals, wasn't it at Cannes Marche last year? but Ralph is probably hoping the good buzz the film has garnered over the past year will get some more deals done. Why not be aggressive, doesn't cost that much to hit Cannes for a few days and if you make just one deal you'll likely recoup the costs for your efforts and then some. And they are likely not just selling to film or DVD distributor but network and cable TV channels who buy up films to fill their schedules. If it were my movie and my money was tied up in it I'd be hustling my butt at every possible opportunity. Like I thought Ralph was smart to take the movie to every film festival he could because you know going in that a Shakespearean adaption esp when you don't modernize the dialogue is not going to be a box office smash.

Surprised there is so little about the Armani and Chopard Gala aka APJ gala, maybe everyone just out having fun but lot of people tweeting about Tom Hardy, I did not realize he was in the same movie as Jessica Chastain, premiering tomorrow at Cannes called Lawless, Sounds like my kind of movie, Weinstein bought it of course. They are impressed he is speaking French well at the Press Conference.
I assume there is a red carpet at the Armani Gala and this event is just starting so have to check over at Gettyimages now.

www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/cannes-relativity-media-ryan-Kavanaugh-326645Relativity Media Logo - H 2011 Ryan Kavanaugh's film financing group is close to a takeover of the producer-distributor. CANNES – Ryan Kavanaugh’s film financing group Relativity Media is close to a takeover of German producer-distributor Senator Entertainment. our editor recommends Cannes 2012: Senator Entertainment CEO Helge Sasse on His Company's Comeback (Q&A) Nicholas Sparks, Senator to Produce German Version of 'The Rescue' U.S. sources familiar with the deal told The Hollywood Reporter that Relativity is set to buy a controlling stake in Senator, most likely together with a third-party investor. The agreement is expected to be announced soon. PHOTOS: Cannes 2012 Day 2 in Pictures Senator is riding high thanks to the blockbuster performance of French culture-clash comedy The Intouchables, which has earned more than $75 million for Senator, beating the performance of the last Harry Potter film in Germany and making Senator the most successful distributor in the territory this year so far. Senator CEO Helge Sasse also has successfully restructured the company’s finances, putting the group on firmer financial ground. The company has upped its game on the production side, boarding such English-language productions as Julie Delpy’s 2 Days in New York, starring Delpy and Chris Rock, and Anton Corbijn’s spy thriller A Most Wanted Man, featuring Philip Seymour Hoffman. Late last year, Senator signed an output deal with Relativity, ensuring that Relativity’s entire upcoming slate -- which includes the action thriller Hunter Killer, starring Gerald Butler and Sam Worthington, and Nicholas Sparks’ adaptation Safe Haven, from director Lasse Hallstrom -- will go to Senator in Germany. A close reading of Senator’s ad hoc release announcing the output deal in December suggests the output deal was planned as the first step in a Relativity takeover. “Relativity will become an important shareholder in Senator,” the ad hoc reads. “Together, both partners want to build Senator into the leading independent distributor in the German market.” PHOTOS: Cannes 2012 Opening Night Gala Investment group Sapinda Holding, which helped Senator refinance its debt last year, supported the output deal. According to the ad hoc, Sapinda will provide capital to Relativity “for future strategic undertakings,” suggesting that the Amsterdam-based investment fund might be part of a Senator takeover. Because Senator is listed on Germany’s stock market, Senator and Relativity are forbidden from commenting on any deal before it is formerly announced. If Relativity takes over Senator, it wouldn’t be Kavanaugh’s first international move. Relativity owns IDG China Media, formerly Boston-based International Data Group’s China-focused investment arm, and last year Relativity formed a joint venture in China with Huaxia Film Distribution and Beijing-based Skyland Film-Television Culture Development. The new Chinese firm will handle distribution along with film production and financing in both China and the U.S.

Thanks SD www.ineedmyfix.com/2012/05/18/gerard-butler-is-in-cannes-now-the-party-can-start/Gerard Butler is in Cannes! NOW the Party Can Start! I knew it! I knew he wouldn’t let me (or Artists for Peace and Justice or the people of Haiti) down. I don’t mean to be glib, Gerard Butler is in Cannes just in time for an event benefiting three different charitable organizations all geared toward continuing to improve the lives of the small Caribbean nation still struggling with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in January 2010. It's a wonderful cause and I'm so glad that they are able to use this time/place, where so many of the world's rich and famous are gathered it's like Robin Leach's wet dream, to do some good. (But FMGWACS – if you've seen Heathers you know what that means – does that man look good in a tux or WHAT?!) Artists for Peace and Justice, on whose board G sits, has been a presence in Cannes for the past two years, but this year they’ve teamed with Sean Penn’s J/P HRO and (his current squeeze) Petra Nemcova’s Happy Hearts Fund for an event presented by Armani called “Haiti Carnival in Cannes” Also pictured along with Butler, APJ Founder, director Paul Haggis, Petra Nemcova of J/P HRO, Giorgio Armani, actor and Haitian activist Jimmy Jean-Louis (who starred in Game of Their Lives with Butler), Cannes juror Ewan McGregor, Lyle Lovett, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Joshua Jackson, Cannes juror Diane Kruger, actor activist Sean Penn (not sure if that was before or after his meltdown where he accused the world of abandoning Haiti. Things look a little testy between Penn and Ewan McGregor) and former Sen. Chris Dodd. Anyone else feel like Samba-ing? (Do they Samba in Haiti?) By the way, I was only able to find THREE pics of G. If I find more, I'm posting them!

Thanks SD www.forbes.com/sites/rogerfriedman/2012/05/18/sean-penn-and-friends-raise-over-1mil-at-cannes-bash/[ Sean Penn and Friends Raise Over $1Mil at Cannes Bash Sean Penn is serious about Haiti. He and director Paul Haggis combined their charitable efforts last night with supermodel Petra Nemcova’s HelpingHands.org, and they raised over $1 million at an elegant, fun dinner packed with A list names. In the big Argo “tent” that caters dinners behind the Palais: Gerard Butler, Jessica Chastain, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger, Ezra Miller, Tom Hardy, producer Megan Ellison, Harvey Weinstein, Ewan McGregor, David Schwimmer, a lot of very rich people, and finally, Sean Diddy Combs. Also on hand: Giorgio Armani, who sponsored the night. His niece, Roberta spoke, as did MPAA chairman and former senator Chris Dodd. Bryan Lourd of CAA, was a chief organizer. It was a much cooler affair than most Cannes fundraises, with a hilarious auction. Among he results: a package of tickets to the Golden Globes and various parties only brought in $70,00. So they impromptu added Butler, brought him to the podium, and offered a date with him. Finally a man Patrice Otsepe of African Rainbow Minerals, offered 100,000 “without Gerry Butler.” He won, Butler blushed, but was certainly thrilled not to have go on a date with a stranger. Each of the three principals spoke passionately about Haiti, including Haggis, Penn and Nemcova (who have apparently rekindled their old romance with Haiti in common). Lyle Lovett played a few songs from the stage, and later a Haitian band called RAM got the crowd dancing. Meanwhile, around the Croisette, Gucci threw a star studded screening of the classic. “One Upon A Time in America” with Robert DeNiro and a slew of celebs. After the Haiti dinner finished at 1 am, select diners who paid another $2,500 over the $5,000 dinner ticket were invited onto Paul Allen‘s largest-yacht-in-the-world with a yellow submarine for middle of the night merriment and maybe even some garage band rock and roll. I did ask someone from the festival about my earlier report today about Italian actor Aneillo Arena being a lifetime prisoner for committing murders. Arena could win Best Actor here for “Reality.” Said the person I spoke to: “Well, that was fifteen years ago.” Yes, I replied, and the people are still dead. So French, though, no?
