I went to the afternoon show of CM at a smaller theater. There were 3 of us. I wish I had gone to the bigger newer theater where most people would go. It just didn't work out today. I plan to go again this weekend to the newer one so we'll see if it's more of a crowd.
I really enjoyed CM. I've seen it twice. Gerry breaks my heart in this movie too. I cried both times. I do wish the public would accept that it's not a surfing movie really, it's a story about humans with surfing the connection.

I saw CM today and really liked it. I think it is a good movie for all ages. I felt the real star of the movie is the surfing scenes. I went with a friend and I think she was a bit surprised at my choice of movie. But she really liked the movie, wants to see it again and liked Butler. ( and she is a tough critic) So I think the movie will do well although it may be a slow start, but I think word of mouth will grow and it should be successful.

Please somebody post that they had a good crowd... Sigh... Maybe tomorrow.... Looks like somewhere in Canada it was sold out but that doesn't count into the US box office which is the number that counts for how a movies does... Which actually is not quite fair to the rest if the world.... Oh, if I read this right Canada is included in the box office number www.boxofficemojo.com/about/boxoffice.htmThat's good, maybe our neighbors to the north will help Gerry along...

But the weekend isn't finish yet, how can they be sure about it? It is hard to believe but they are seldom off by a large margin with these predictions. Friday night is the driving indicator - the larger number on a Friday gives them a starting point for their formula for determining the weekend total. In addition the theater count is low for CM at only 2,000 which is also factored in. In the case of Chasing Mavericks they are assuming that it will perform better on Sat & Sun because it is a family film, the only problem is that Fridays # was so low that it would take a unprecedented pick-up on Sat & Sun. The studio estimates were $3 million going into the weekend but right now it is falling short of that. What is disappointing is that last night early tracking had the studio feeling the movie would make 5 million. Maybe the storm is having an effect on people not venturing out to the theater on the east coast. All in all I do think reviews matter when audiences are movie shopping something outside their favorite genre. Also movies based on novels always have a built in audience. Sports dramas are not the easiest sale especially about surfing it seems.

I just bought 4 extra tickets for tonight's showing. If you can afford it, please try to buy an extra ticket or two. I'm giving mine away to people who wouldn't have gone otherwise.
Just doin' my bit to help out our guy! : )

Went to see CM last evening my husband and daughter went with me. We went to an early show because she wanted to see Rocky Horror which played in our town at midnight last night too. Maybe about 21 people in the theater but everyone was yelling at the same time and it was exciting (don't know if we in a larger group if that would have happened). Upon leaving there were closer to 30 people maybe more waiting to go in. As it turned out my daughter when to rocky and told them. They are going tonight. I am a little afraid of going again this weekend having surgery done on Wednesday, hoping I will be able to sit better in another week. I will say that I was very emotional during this movie, did not know the full history. Hope evey gets to see it. It is worth any money spent

I saw CM twice today in a larger newer theater. First show had about 20 people. Second show had about 40 people. I am hope that means tonight will be an even larger crowd.
At the end of the second show it seemed like the audience sat there not moving like they were so emotionally caught up in the movie, they didn't want to move. That's how I feel each time I see it.
I have seen it 4 times. I like it more and more. I hope it gets to all of your areas because it is so worth spending the money on even if you aren't a Gerry fan.
I love the video of the CM premiere that was posted today. Made me smile when I saw those 3 surfer guys who played Gerry's buddies in the movie at the premiere. The real surfer guys who aren't actors!
It breaks my heart that this movie is so easily dismissed by the critics and what the movie needs is some time at the theater so people can see it. I am crossing my fingers and toes.
