As our two new mods for the black news box and the blue chat box!

As you know our black box has become a very popular place for members and non-members alike to get all their Gerry news and you also know that lately we have had more chat on our news box than we care to have. That is one reason we opened the forum up for non-members to post. We understand that some people would like to comment on news items and not being members the news box was the only place to do this, but not anymore now that the forum is open in the section ALL THINGS GERRY.

Ladies there is a gray area where chat is concerned in the black news box. If the chat provides information concerning a recent news post that is good thing, but when it slides into a conversation we would like to avoid that. That is why some chat is left and some chat is deleted. The chat pushes the important news off the board and this is our news box.

I assure you that none of the deletions in the news box (and I am sure there will be some) aren't personal. Please don't think you are getting a slap on the wrist when a post of yours gets deleted in the black box, we just want to keep the box efficient and news the focal point.

Your comments on this would be welcome and I didn't post this to rip on Anon poster but to get opinions.

Most of us do have a life outside Gerry and news do get lost if there is too much chat and conversation in the black box. Sometimes you check just quick before work and at lunch and you'll miss something important if there is all that chat. I mean that's why we established the blue box so we would be able to discuss freely. To make a comment on a news item here and there is OK but often it just ends up in those wild speculations and news get lost. Especially when it comes to Gerry and women it is always getting out of hand, you can bet money on it. And some people get all worked up about stuff and then the discussion really gets going. And some people seem to enjoy to get other people worked up and throw in wild and unsubstantiated speculation in there and you blink for a second and there is two pages worth of nothing really newsworthy there. So I think the members chat box is the right idea. And you always can also post away in the threads.

I like having the news box be for news. Today's couple of different discussions that ran for awhile showed me just what the place would be like if we had chatting on the main page. Guests can use threads and are encouraged to do so. Members can use the blue box, and are also encouraged to do so. That all seems pretty fair to me. I think the news box should be more of a "snapshot," not a chore to read through like it was today to see if there was anything new. My two cents then: keep the news box for news, not chat.
