When you think about it makes sense that the Scotsman would befriend the man with the last name Haggis, LOL, Paul must be Scottish too no? I know he is Canadian but must be some Scottish blood in his background. I had haggis once in Edinburgh- I didn't realize it until after but I thought not bad at all.
Interesting that he was a member of the Church of Scientology until 2009 over the Church's position on Prop 8 in California.
Otherwise I'd be a bit concerned. I don't trust that Church frankly if you can even call it a Church.

Canadia. I don't care for the Church of Scientology either. I mean, you can't really trust a religion created by a man who used to write science fiction for a living and had been popping pills and drinking when he came up with this (I reseached this when my former boss got into this so-called religion (I call it a cult) and wanted to know what he was getting into). I lost respect for Tom Cruise when he became actively involved with this cult (him jumping on Oprah's couch didn't help him either... what an idiot!!!) and I still feel like Nicole Kidman made a HUGE upgrade when she hooked up with Keith Urban.

I say this very carefully as to not start any false rumors.... There is no word that Gerry is linked to nor has any involvement with Scientology. Gerry has done the spiritual soul searching in the past with eastern religions, I hope that he doesn't ever consider Scientology....Yikes.... they seem to begin to go after actors who are beginning to explode in their career.

Haggis wrote a pretty scathing letter condemning Sciencetology, so if Gerry is getting close to Paul Haggis I'm pretty sure Haggis would not hold anything back about his former religion. I think Gerry has enough smarts not to fall under their spell.

Well my point was I was glad to hear that Haggis is no longer involved and that I was surprised he ever was involved. I would have less of a problem if Scientology defined itself as a philosophy, a way of living rather than a religion especially given its origins. That tax exempt status is quite lucrative and convenient.
I suppose too like most religions, people have a tendency to pick and chose which parts of the religion they adhere to and which parts they ignore.

If Haggis is no involved with the COS (which is amazing that he got away. I remember reading scary stories about a woman who tried to get out of the COS and she (and her family) ended up being harrassed because she quit), I doubt he would be talking to Gerry about it. I also highly doubt that Gerry would get involved. He's an intelligent man and I can't see him getting involved with something like this.

Scientology and Gerry would be a major deal breaker for me too....that would be the ultimate turn off. I know Gerry would not enter into that cult!

Scientology and Gerry would be a major deal breaker for me too....that would be the ultimate turn off. I know Gerry would not enter into that cult! Ditto... as much as I would hate it, I couldn't support anyone who was involved with them because their earnings would be earmarked for the Church (Tom C. fully supports Scientology and is an important member because he gives a lot of money to them, this is why they target celeb's and other big money makers- this church was started because L. Ron Hubbard (founder of the Church of Scientology) wanted to start his own religion so he could make money). This is all hypothetical because Gerry would never join this cult; I remember reading that Tom C. once approached Will Smith about joining and he declined... I always knew there was a reason I liked (and respected) Will Smith.
